1. What diameters are the Rope Light available in? We have two types – the 13mm (approximately ½") and 10mm (approximately 2/5") 2. Does the Rope Light require a transformer to work? Our Rope Lighting is available in Line Voltage (120V) only. We do not carry any low voltage Rope Light. These Line Voltage items do not require a transformer to work. 3. Can the Rope Light be custom cut to length at the factory? Yes - there will be a cutting charge, and the cost per foot is based on the cost of a 30' roll. The Rope Light is cuttable at 18" multiple lengths only, i.e. 18", 36", 54", 72" etc. See price sheets for details. 4. What do I need to order to make the Rope Light work? Basic accessories needed to light Rope Light:
Our "Power Pack" (RL146 and RP146) is a convenient package of RL01, RL04 and RL06 or RP01, RP04 and RP06. 5. What is the difference between the 13mm and 10mm Rope Light? They are both identical in the specifications. The only difference is the diameter. 6. Can the Rope Light be used outdoors? Yes - ETL approved for indoor and outdoor use. May be used as an architectural accent, indirect lighting, on stairs, stair rails, windows, stages, exhibits, displays, night clubs, pools, spas, patio areas, in landscapes etc. When used outdoors, be sure that all connections are properly sealed with silicon. 7. How many bulbs are there in a piece of Rope Light? Bulbs are spaced 1" apart. For example, a 300' roll will have (300 x 12) 3600 bulbs. Each bulb is 0.46W (6.5V 70MA). Average lamp life is approximately 30,000 hours. Lumens: 1.5 per bulb; 18 per feet. Note that the maximum length per run is 150'. 8. What is the total amperage of a roll of rope?
9. What happens when a bulb goes out? When a bulb goes out, the entire 18" section has to be replaced. Even if the rest of the bulbs within that 18" are still on, they will eventually go out. You will need to cut out the defective section, and splice in a new section with two splice connectors. 10. Can I cut anywhere along the length of the Rope Light? Every 18" section is a circuit by itself. Therefore you can only cut at every 18" interval, which is marked with a silver line. If you cut elsewhere, you will damage the entire 18" length. 11. What is the maximum length per run? Must not exceed 150 feet. 12. What does the controller do? The 120V 10A Controller controls the speed of blinking of up to 4 runs of Rope (maximum of 150' each). it works on an on-off mechanism for only one strand at any given time. It does not have a "Chasing" capability even if connected to Chasing Rope Light. 13. What is the temperature tolerance? -5ºF to 140ºF -20ºC to 60ºC 14. What colors are the Rope Light available in? 5 colors - Clear, Red, Yellow, Blue, Green. 15. How do I install a channel? You can nail or screw the channel to a surface, or use a double sided tape on smooth surfaces like glass or marble. You should choose the most appropriate method depending on the type of application. The channel is rigid - cannot be bent. To insert Rope Light into channel, simply press it into the channel - it will fit snugly. Helpful hint - preheat Rope Light for a short time (simply by lighting it) before inserting into channel for a better lasting fit. Be sure that the rope light is not lit when coiled – otherwise, it will overheat. 16. Can the rope light be installed in a floor channel of a movie theater? No, the rope light must never be totally enclosed as the heat build up will cause the rope to fail quickly. 17. How do I determine how many mounting clips to buy? These are very inexpensive. We generally recommend one per foot of Rope Light, or more in sections that have a sharper bend. You will need to buy an extension wire to connect between the two 15' pieces. The extension wire comes equipped with plugs on each end, which connects into the cut ends of each of the 15' pieces. 19. What material is the Rope Light made of? PVC. 20. Can Rope Light be used in a low voltage situation (12V) like a motor home or a boat? No - only in 120V applications. 21. Is the Rope Light dimmable? Yes - use regular incandescent dimmers. 22. Can I bundle two lengths of Rope together? No – there has to be at least a 3" space between the lengths. The two strands must not touch. 23. Can I form a 90 degree angle in a corner? You cannot have a sharp bend. You have to maintain a radius. We do not make an "L" connector.
