Energy Saving Dimmers
With energy costs climbing dramatically, many people are attempting to reduce their utility by replacing incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs. While this bulb replacement is very effective in reducing energy costs, fluorescent bulbs often give off a cool bluish cast that makes interior colors look drab and dingy.
One solution is to install a standard dimming wall switch for your existing incandescent fixture. This allows you to have 100% of the light when needed and just a fraction of the energy when only general or ambient light is required. In addition, dimming your existing incandescent bulbs will extend bulb life.
| Dimming a bulb this much | Reduces the energy bill this much | And extends the bulb life this much |
| 10% | 10% | 2X |
| 25% | 20% | 4X |
| 50% | 40% | 20X |
| 75% | 60% | More than 20X |
